We suffered another tragedy over the last few days. Just a couple of weeks ago, a racist murdered innocent black people in the sanctuary of sanctuaries, their own church. Rightfully, not only have the senseless murders been condemned, but it has sparked a long overdue debate over the offensive nature of the confederate flag to blacks. Our great nation has shown it can still learn and grow better, even through tragedy.

The same is true regarding the cold-blooded shooting death of an innocent woman, Kathryn Steinle, shot through the heart by Francisco Sanchez, a 45 year old immigrant that illegally re-entered the U.S. after 5 deportations. This murderer should not get any type of sanctuary, but to blame a 26 year old city ordinance for this murder is flat out wrong.

No sanctuary city can trump federal law. The truth here is there is plenty of blame to go around. This guy should never have been back a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, let alone a 5th time after being deported! But let’s be clear. CBP, tasked with securing the border, dropped the ball multiple times. So did I.C.E. In this case, I.C.E., an agency that mostly does great work albeit far from perfect, used a flawed method they knew San Fran would not follow (a detainer request) instead of a more sure-fired method such as a court order, which San Fran would’ve honored and prevented this tragedy. Also, all law enforcement failed to alert the U.S. Marshals, who could’ve held this evil bastard in custody and prosecuted him for his illegal re-entries after deportation each of which is a separate federal crime.

At the end of the day, hopefully better policies will emerge but as we have seen lately, whether it is ISIS beheadings, racist murderers, or Mr. Sanchez killing an innocent woman, tragedies still happen. Before you pass judgment on our hard working law enforcement employees or sanctuary cities, read the attached article. We need to cooperate to avoid any further senseless murders, while focusing on solutions and understanding why things like sanctuary cities came into being before rushing to blame them.

Read Below. Rest in Peace Ms. Steinle.
