IMMIGRANT VISAS

Immigrant Visa Attorneys

In order for a foreign national to legally enter, live and work in the United States he or she must be issued an immigrant visa. An immigrant visa enables you to enter the United States, take up permanent residence, and receive a green card. This pathway for an individual outside of the U.S. to obtain an immigrant visa abroad is referred to as consular processing.

Immigrant Visa to obtain Green Card

Only after you use the immigrant visa to enter the United States can you get a green card. Temporary visits or stays in the United States can be authorized by obtaining a non-immigrant visa, however permanent residency for foreign nationals can only be obtained through an immigrant visa.

Once a foreign national has been granted a green card and has lived in the United States for a certain length of time may then be eligible to apply for naturalization and citizenship. Green cards have an expiration date of ten years from issuance, however the permanent resident status itself does not expire as the resident must then apply for a new green card.

Determining the Right Immigrant Visa

Determining which immigrant visa to apply for and ensuring that the application itself is correctly completed and filed, can mean the difference between a visa approval or denial. If you are considering applying for an immigrant visa we advise that you consult an experienced  immigration lawyer.
